About

16 Feb

Hello. I am Kate, a graphic designer, blogger and maker from Seattle. I moved to San Francisco in 2009  with my partner to get my MFA in design at California College of the Arts. Now I run a small visual and graphic design studio, Kate Koeppel Design. I make things with my hands and strive to produce work that is playful with purpose. I am available for custom graphic design work, photo styling, print and identity work. Have a project in mind? Let’s talk!

Mi Piace Kate is pronounced: Me pee-ah-chay Kate. In Italian, it means Kate is pleasing to me, or very simply, I like Kate.

My side projects include Skill Exchange Workshops, this blog, and etsy shop. I like a good dinner party, and pack a mean picnic. I wrote my MFA Design thesis at CCA on the environmental, cultural and economic impact of the devaluation of self-reliance. To learn more about my thesis check out these thesis posts.

Facts about this blog: My blog is a combination of my work, side projects, and other things. Content changes with my interests, but you can count on design projects, cat photos, cooking, occasional recipes, and lots of self-reliance experiments.

Weekly features include:

  • What we ate  posts are photo-based, created to encourage me to practice regular weekly cooking, healthy eating, as well as learning new skills and recipes
  • Accidental Cat Lady posts feature stories, feline-photos and general cat cuteness chronicling apartment life with an absurd number of cats
  • What I am working on posts are a weekly look at my current projects in progress– sometimes graphic design, home, gardening or DIY projects
  • Skill Exchange posts provide information about my current and upcoming skill exchange workshops, and updates on my collaboration with Pot + Pantry

Other facts:  I have two four cats and one Intern. The big cats are called Sofia and Lucca, and both are Snowshoe Siamese. The smaller two cats are called Muuli and Neebu, and they are Bengals. All four are rescue cats.  My partner occasionally appears on the blog alongside the cats, and he is lovingly known as Intern on my blog. He cooks, he wears fancy socks, he cat-wrangles, and he loves typewriters.

Anything else? Thanks for checking out my blog! Please say hello if you have any questions about my work or possibly my cats. Email me: mipiacekate [at] gmail.com. I do not accept paid advertisements on my blog, but I do like email from friendly readers!

Hello, cat person here! Instead of making breakfast, starting homework or getting dressed, or even drinking my coffee that is now cold, I played with the cats this morning. And took pictures.

I think if you were here, you’d probably do the same. I mean, look at that nose. Lucca is seriously determined to kill that pipe cleaner.

This weekend we’re having a little dinner party for Anne K and Kevin, and I’ll probably start doing lots of productive making explorations for that little old lonely thesis of mine. This warm January sun isn’t going unnoticed either- Thank you San Francisco weather.
