Grad school does a funny thing to the brain I think. All my work is critiqued week after week, which calls for a tough skin in my grad classes. This is not the case in my typography class, which is an undergrad class, and the girls in that class only give compliments or weird personal comments to each other in critiques. They say, “I like that color! I think you did a good job choosing colors” or “If this was mine, I’d make it pink!” or sometimes, my favorite, “can you put a shadow behind that?”
Anyway, back to psychogeography. I went into my media matters grad studio critique with this embroidered psychogeography, and came out with the distinct idea that “the best kind of shitty” was actually a compliment from my instructor (oh hey Geoff). As weird as that sounds, the best kind of shitty actually made me feel pretty good about my craft and material.
my point? Shitty= not bad. Oh grad school!

well, I haven't had another once since, so maybe this one was a fluke. I can say for sure though, you are better than the best kind of shitty!
