Garage sales and weekend meals

8 Nov

We found this little white metal table at a garage sale down the street for only $2.  I have been looking for a table, or plant stand for our mini back porch so we could lift our little herb garden a bit higher for more sun, and easier harvesting for us. I didn’t want to buy something plastic or made of particle board, which is really all I’ve seen lately. This little table is perfect for our little garden collection.

So far we have basil and rosemary and two kinds of sage (my favorite!) plus some mint (the intern’s favorite) and we will soon have our own wheat grass crop for Sofia, who is very needy and vocal if we don’t have some for her when she wants it. She was so needy last week, she actually ate a piece of lettuce I offered her… come to think of it, she’ll try anything I offer her off my plate. She isn’t that picky at all. She loves a little stolen bread or pancake, rice… and fish and chicken of course.

We went to another garage sale on Saturday, and found two wood frames for $1 each.  Our photo cluster in the kitchen is growing!

I bought some pink heirloom tomatoes at Rainbow Grocery last week, and we’ve been eating them they are delicacies. They smell like real tomatoes from the garden, and they aren’t mushy and chalky like most grocery store tomatoes.  We like them sliced up with basil, olive oil, greek feta and salt and pepper… delicious.

Lunch… leftovers from our dinner party Friday night.
