Free Time

28 Oct

Its a funny thing really, free time in grad school. It doesn’t exist. I had a physical last week, and my doctor told me I’m stressed, under-rested and carrying too much tension around. I laughed. She suggested I relax regularly and try to get more sleep, regularly. I went to the studio and told a few classmates, and they all laughed. We’re laughing because its true, and we’re laughing because we’re all exhausted and stressed.

On that note, I thought I would share some of the things I’ve been doing instead of sleeping and relaxing this week. Lately my blog is full of nice relaxing things, like snacks and dinners and napping cats. That’s not exactly what fills up my time every day. That’s just a tiny little piece.

I wrote a midterm over the weekend on lined card stock (like what you might see in a cursive class in elementary school) and I wrote it in big loopy girlish cursive. I dotted all the ‘i’s with hearts. It was a letter from the future, to the past, addressed to the Futurist Movement. (just to explain, the futurist’s didn’t like the past, or women for that matter) My hand ached after all that writing. It didn’t occur to me to take a picture of it… but the paper looked like the photo below, except bigger and longer.

I wrote another paper for my writing class… spent two full days on it… and turned it in two weeks early, completely by accident. I don’t know how I mistakenly believed it was due this week. I guess that puts me ahead? Anyway, here are some visuals I made and included in the paper.

This weekend a good friend from Seattle is coming to visit, so I think the weekend will be less work, and more fun. We’re planning some good dinners, a little sleeping in, brunch at Zazie, long walks, and maybe, just maybe, a trip to Zara.
