Very happy happy

18 Aug

Today we have big plans, because we’re celebrating someone very important. Someone who has accomplished some amazing things. My mom is incredibly strong, creative to the point of brilliance, and has a sense of humor through even the hardest of times. For this particular birthday though, we have a lot more to celebrate. This birthday+celebration has been a long time in the making. We’ve got a simple plan, but it is very significant for the three of us. 22 years ago my mom celebrated another significant birthday with a walk across the Golden Gate bridge with my sister. 22 years ago I was too young to make the trip, so I waited with Grandma on the other end. This time will be better, because I’m big enough to walk the whole 1.7 miles across, and this time I get to do it with my mom and sister. We’ve come a long way this year, each one of us.

She makes me laugh, she always tells funny stories about things we were too young to remember, and she knows how to make the perfect Negroni. Actually, she can make just about anything… A homemade native American costume for a musical recital at school in less than two hours with no prior notice? check (the costume was amazing btw… but that is another story). Beet + Chocolate cake that is so delicious two picky daughters will never notice is actually good for them? check. Gourmet sliced steak and pesto mayonnaise sandwiches for my elementary school lunches, that I sometimes hid under my bed when I didn’t eat them at school? check. Tablecloths and lunch bags, purses, costumes and napkins and tote bags and dresses and throw pillows and pot holders and furniture? yeah, she makes all that!

Mom still shares her accessories with me!

Happy birthday Mom.
